Angela Hysen - Toronto, Ontario

Angela is a recent graduate from McDaniel College in Maryland. She has a Masters Degree in Deaf Education with a certification in teaching bilingual education for the Deaf. Angela has an undergraduate degree in World Literature, English and History from the University of Toronto.  Angela also worked as a teacher’s assistant and substitute teacher at E.C. Drury School for the Deaf in Milton, Ontario before attending McDaniel’s Deaf Education program.

As a Deaf individual, Angela lives in both the hearing and the Deaf world, as she was raised in a Deaf family and yet attended a mainstream environment during her formative years. Angela learned at a very young age that American Sign Language and Deaf Culture was something that should be promoted and shown to any interested person who want to learn a language with its own linguistics structure and rules.

Angela’s strong belief in a student-centered classroom branches out in her position as an American Sign Language Tutor/Teacher. She does not believe in teaching ASL in a classroom but rather into the conversational skills that can be extended outside a classroom into public places. Angela believes that in order for students to learn ASL, it is important to expose them to Deaf Culture and to show how Deaf individuals communicate with others.

If you are someone who is interested in learning ASL or need to practice your conversational skills, do not be shy to contact Angela for that fun experience!
