Angelica Sayson-Ametin
Northern Virginia (Near Washington DC)
Angelica fell in love with signing and the deaf community over ten years ago. While being an active member in her church, she met a friend who was taking her doctorate at Galluadet University. She was not deaf but an interpreter for the deaf church members. When she found out that Angelica was interested in the language and the deaf members at the church, she encourage her to study and learn sign language in the event that she would be her substitute in future occasions. Angelica ran with it because she loved signing, and her deaf friends. Practice, practice, and more practice was how she learned quickly. Immersing herself in the culture and the language she gained more confidence and skill. Sign language turned out to be something easy and fun for her so she enrolled at Galluadet University for a continuing education course for ASL.
While at the University she realized that the deaf have a different culture as well as a wonderful language. She is fortunate enough to meet and make deaf friends and have kept relationships with them to this day.
Angelica lives in the Northern Virginia Area, close to Washington DC. She has two daughters ages 7 and 9 who love to practice signing with their mom. She is looking forward to beginning this new adventure teaching baby sign language classes in order to help parents communicate and have a closer bond with their babies and toddlers.
