Carolyn Vallejo, Brampton, Mississauga & Oakville, ON
Carolyn is thrilled to offer My Smart Hands baby signing classes in her area. As an Ontario-certified teacher and a dedicated mother of two boys, aged 8 and 10, Carolyn has always been fascinated with child development, especially in the areas of literacy and oral communication. She has worked extensively with young children, both in the Peel Board of Education and in her own home-based kindergarten enrichment program, which she designed herself to promote early literacy skills in three to five year-olds.
Carolyn’s interest in signing with hearing children began when she watched with wonder as her nephew, Quintin, was taught by his mother to use basic signs to communicate his wants and needs. Carolyn was intrigued and has since done considerable research into the enormous benefits of using sign language to promote speech and cognitive development in babies and young children. She has completed courses in American Sign Language and is continuing her studies with the Canadian Hearing Society.
Carolyn is excited to use the My Smart Hands curriculum in her sign language classes. The program is dynamic, easy to follow and fun, and the music is very engaging for both moms and babies! As a teacher, Carolyn is patient, spirited and creative, and her classes are a pleasure to attend.
