Tristan and Sharon Kong - Kingston Jamaica

Tristan and Sharon Kong are excited to offer MySmartHands classes in Kingston, Jamaica where Sharon was born.

Sharon is an Ontario Certified Teacher and after 29 years of teaching in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada has now retired. She enjoyed the challenges, the joys and the success of the elementary classroom. She continues to do this as an Occasional Teacher Working with her young students, their Parents, High School Co op Students, College Students and Student teachers have given her many memories and positive experiences that will be a foundation as she starts a new career, My Smart Hands.

As she enjoys her retirement, Sharon plans on spending some of the wintery months in the warmth of her birthplace, Jamaica. Here she hopes her years of experience of teaching in the kindergarten and primary department will be an invaluable asset to “educate young minds” as a “My Smart Hand” instructor.

19 years ago, Sharon and her family welcomed her third son, Tristan, into their lives. This began an awesome, delightful journey in learning American Sign Language and the Deaf Culture. Tristan became exposed to ASL at a very early age and was able to start communicating with his hearing family and also in the deaf community. This was a positive step in having a happy child. Tristan's hearing cousin, Max, was taught baby signs at an early age. With this, he was able to communicate with his Mom and Dad and he has continued to develop into a peaceful, confident young man.  Combined with personal success stories and her strong belief in educating young minds with sign language Sharon decided to join My Smart Hands.

Sharon looks forward to meeting Parents and Caregivers and their young child in a relaxed atmosphere of song and stories as we learn to communicate with our babies.

However, she won’t teach alone because with her Deaf son, Tristan, they will teach classes together! A unique Teacher mother and Deaf son team!

Tristan Kong was born with America Sign Languages as his first language.  He has attended E.C.Drury School for the Deaf (Elementary and High school) in Milton, Ontario since he was 2 years old. He is almost finished his last semester and now will chase his dream.  He also has experienced working with people at McDonald’s, Sign Language Summer Program (Camp Counsellor), Toronto International Deaf Films and Arts Festival,  and most recently at Halton Health Dept.  He loves acting, photography, and volleyball.

Tristan believes he can bring his first Language to teach parents how to use their hands to communicate.

Sharon believes she can bring her knowledge of education that allows parents to communicate effectively with their babies and toddlers.

Tristan also can teach Deaf babies with their hearing parents.
