Kacy Jones - Wilmington, North Carolina
For as long as she can remember, Kacy has always wanted to work with children. Coming from a family of eight children must bring that out in her. Kacy grew up in a small town in Ohio. Later attending Bowling Green State University, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Education (Early Childhood Degree Pre-K- Third Grade) and a minor in Special Education. While at BGSU Kacy took 2 semesters of ASL. She truly enjoyed the experience she received from her ASL instructors. After receiving her degree, Kacy moved to Wilmington, North Carolina to obtain a teaching position. She is currently employed as a Preschool teacher for a local school district.
Kacy has been teaching three and four year old children for 4 years now and she absolutely loves it. The program in which she teaches is based on Head Start and More at Four funding. The children all come from very diverse backgrounds and are placed in this program to prepare them for kindergarten. Kacy uses ASL in her classroom daily to teach children the alphabet, letter sounds, familiar books and songs and to help with discipline and behavior management. It is truly amazing to see how much they learn using ASL and how things seem to come much easier when using ASL. Every chance Kacy gets, she takes continuing education classes dealing with ASL. Kacy enjoys reading about and sharing the benefits that ASL has on young children.
Kacy was recently married to her husband David. They are expecting their first child in early October. She always knew that she wanted to teach her own children ASL. Kacy cannot wait to get started! This has also given her a great opportunity to share her experience and amazement of the benefits that ASL provides with others. Kacy is very excited to be a My Smart Hands Instructor and looks forward to teaching you and your child.
