Karyn Holowaty, East Durham, ON
Karyn is a certified teacher with the Ontario College of Teachers and is also a Registered Respiratory Therapist working in the intensive care unit of a pediatric hospital. She has an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Queen’s University and completed her post-graduate degree in Education at York University. During her studies at Queen’s, Karyn completed courses in signing offered by the Canadian Hearing Society.
When Karyn had a daughter she did considerable research and learned that by incorporating sign language into her daily routines she could aid in her child’s development as well as teach her a method of communication. Karyn has a good understanding of the developmental needs of children through her classroom experience and incorporates this knowledge into her program with music and visual aids. She has experience teaching early literacy and is excited to extend that knowledge into her work with signing. Karyn’s background in teaching makes her a strong presence in the classroom and she has decided to share her passion for signing with other caregivers as an instructor for My Smart Hands TM. She is kind and patient and wants every parent and caregiver to share an environment with their children that is full of fun, love, growth and communication!
