Kimberly Thompson - Lubbock, Texas
As a certified English teacher in the state of Texas, Kim has always had an interest in language and teaching children. She is a graduate of Texas Tech University and is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree there as well. After teaching a variety of grades at area schools, she truly has an understanding of what it takes to be a passionate teacher as well as the importance of education. Sign language not only provides a great learning experience for children, it also gives them an opportunity to communicate with others from an early age.
Kim’s passion for sign language began in Middle school after learning the ASL alphabet in one of her classes. Her desire to learn more sign language came after seeing two of her friend’s babies communicating what they wanted and needed with their parents through sign language. After teaching basic ASL signs to another friend’s daughter who was hard of hearing, she saw the positive benefits as well as the communication ability it gave the child and knew that Lubbock was missing this valuable opportunity. She then decided to become a My Smart Hands Instructor.
Kim is looking forward to sharing her knowledge and skills with others and can’t wait for families to be able to experience the positive outcomes that come through learning sign language.
