Liberty Saunders - Cary, North Carolina
Since childhood Liberty has had a passion for children and Sign Language. In high school she took a co-op class that allowed her to begin her career in childcare. Although she had always had an interest in sign, it wasn’t until her first daughter was born that she really had an outlet. A friend introduced her to Baby Sign Language, and she was hooked. Since then, she’s taken formal ASL courses and taught her other two daughters to sign (ASL) as well.
Liberty is currently working at a LaPetite Academy and Preschool in Cary, NC where she is the Lead Two Year Old Teacher. She uses sign language in the classroom and absolutely delights in the enthusiasm the children have for learning it. She teaches the basic signs for general communication, as well as colors and animals. The children learn so much quicker and retain so much more when sign language is used as a teaching tool. Liberty is in the process of getting her Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, and hopes to go on to get her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.
As a My Smart Hands instructor, Liberty is excited about the opportunity to help families, from all walks of life, alleviate frustration and open up a world so full of wonder and beauty that can be shared through the joy of signing.
