Michelle Steffen - Foulder County, Colorado
Michelle Steffen has made a lifelong career of advocating for and educating young children. Even at an early age, Michelle often found herself as the leader of the neighborhood kids. So much so, this led to starting her own babysitting business, complete with advertising, by the age of 12. In college, she took a class on communicative disorders and realized she had found her niche.
After graduating with a degree in Speech Language and Hearing Sciences, including extensive coursework in ASL, she furthered her education by taking graduate level courses in Deaf Education. Additionally, she became certified as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) in the state of Colorado.
Upon having children and using American Sign Language with them, Michelle saw the obvious benefits of children who can communicate before words. Wanting to connect her love of children with her ability to educate, Michelle began bringing her skills to the classroom as an SLPA. She has taken that experience and is now embarking on her dream of educating other parents, caregivers, teachers and children to the benefits of signing.
Michelle has been described as a vibrant, enthusiastic and loving educator to whom children are drawn. To find out more about her classes, please email Michelle at michellesteffen@mysmarthands.com
