Rasheedah Hamilton - Kaiserslautern, Germany
Rasheedah first fell in love with ASL at the tender age of fourteen. It was at this stage that she first learned the basic ASL alphabets. Years later, after she visited the Texas School of the Deaf in Austin Texas, Rasheedah’s desire to learn sign language grew. Rasheedah is attending Lamar University pursuing a Bachelors of Fine Arts and Communications Degree. Upon graduating she plans on receiving her Master’s of Science Degree in Deaf Studies/Deaf Education.
Rasheedah has always worked with children in a number of different settings. She worked in the early childhood education field for two years helping to expand the minds of young children. She started introducing her son, at the age of ten months, to sign language. Her family thought she was making a big mistake by teaching her child sign language and couldn’t understand her choice. It was around fourteen months when his signing really began to take off. Rasheedah and her (once doubting) family now communicate with her son on a daily basis through sign languge, which is expanding his vocabulary daily.
Rasheedah has a passion for teaching and believes that all children learn in their very own special way. She wants to help other mothers communicate with their children though the use of sign language. Rasheedah’s classes are full of music, songs and games making it a fun and entertaining class for both adults and babies!
