Reneé has worked with children in many capacities for over 16 years. She was first introduced to American Sign Language in fourth grade, where she learned one of her favorite signs "turtle!" She took an ASL workshop when she was a Preschool Teacher and immediately fell in love. Reneé could see the benefits of integrating this program into her classroom.
A seed was planted. And, to her delight, Reneé was amazed how well the children responded to the basic signing that she introduced and how it seemed to capture their attention; almost as if they had been looking for this way to communicate all along! Reneé has also had the pleasure of working with hearing impaired students as a teacher’s assistant. Here she used sign language to help the children to adapt and participate in a regular preschool environment. The seed that was planted started to bloom as Reneé helped the children communicate without frustration and have fun while participating with their class.
After searching for ways to continue her work with younger children, Reneé came across the My Smart Hands Program. She was delighted to find that My Smart Hands highlighted the same important benefits of signing that she believed in and had experienced firsthand in her work with preschoolers. Signing with your child at an early age allows them to express their wants and needs without anyone getting frustrated. You are empowering your child now and providing an excellent foundation for success with verbal and written communication skills in the future. The Bond in the family's new relationship is able to grow because of ASL.
Reneé is very excited to bring the My Smart Hands program to her community and looks forward to sharing her passion for ASL.
