including Thurston and Pierce counties.
Ruth Taylor Briggs has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Pacific Lutheran University. She has extensive experience working with children in a variety of settings. In college she worked for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America as a Program Specialist. She mentored her students with homework, physical education, and personal enrichment. After college she worked as a Title 1 para-educator in grades 1 to 4. Ruth is passionate about the education field and loves enriching the lives of young children. Children are always drawn to her caring and energetic personality.
As a young girl Ruth taught herself the manual alphabet along with other signs. After her daughter Lily was born, a mom told her to check out the Signing Time Video Series. Ruth was skeptical of the benefit of signing with hearing babies, but after watching the Signing Time videos and practicing with Lily, she immediately noticed a difference in her communication level and frustration! Convinced signing worked, she began learning more signs and immersing herself in the language. Ruth is now continuing her education in ASL, and is excited to share the My Smart Hands program with parents and children in her area!
Ruth's plans for the future are to continue her graduate education, and eventually become an ASL interpreter. Ruth will make her classes fun and engaging, while strengthening the bond between you and your child.
