Sasha Gomez - Miami-Dade, Florida
Sasha became interested in American Sign Language while in middle school when she met several deaf adults through her cousin. Her middle school didn't offer classes, so her cousin taught her a few signs. When she entered high school, she took
advantage of their curriculum and took ASL for the 4 years she attended. Her love for ASL and the deaf culture only intensified when she visited a school for Deaf children. Then and there she decided two things: One was that she wanted to work with children. Two, that she wanted to incorporate ASL in her work.
Sasha had her first child, Noah, in September of 2008. She was always looking for new things they could do together that would be fun and also educationally beneficial, and came across baby sign language and "My Smart Hands". She began teaching her son sign language and saw the results immediately. Noah could communicate his needs before he could speak! This greatly reduced frustration for both mommy and baby. Now that Noah is over a year old, Sasha is also seeing how sign language has helped his speech development. Because she says the word out loud as she is signing, Noah has developed an impressive vocabulary for his age. He often signs and speaks simultaneously!
Sasha believes in the benefits of teaching babies and toddlers sign language, and the bond it can create between parent and child. Her hope is to give you a new fun and convenient way to communicate with your child, all while teaching a new language
and unlocking the potential your baby has!
